__ LA IDENTIFICACIÓN PASO A PASO

__ El proceso para llegar a identificar los ascendientes de una variedad de vid es “complicado”, debido sobre todo a la edad de muchas de ellas, que se miden en cientos de años de cultivo. En muchos casos no es posible un hallazgo como el que aquí se presenta, simplemente porque los progenitores han desaparecido. En caso de que existan, es necesario llevar a cabo, por un lado, un estudio de ADN y, por otro, un estudio histórico. Ambos se deben complementar en lo posible con estudios de la morfología de cada variedad.

__ Para el análisis de ADN se toman muestras (normalmente de hoja) de las distintas variedades a evaluar, se extrae su ADN y se analiza en unos puntos concretos (marcadores) que permiten establecer la posible existencia de relaciones de parentesco entre las variedades. Según los investigadores, cuantos más marcadores se utilicen, más fiable serán los resultados del análisis de parentesco.

__ El estudio histórico, ayudado por el morfológico, sirve para tratar de determinar el origen temporal de las variedades implicadas, y sus lugares de cultivo en tiempos remotos, que pueden no coincidir con los actuales.

__ THE IDENTIFICATION STEP BY STEP

__ The process of identifying ancestors of a vine variety is "complicated," especially because of the age of many of them, measured in hundreds of years of cultivation. In many cases a finding like the one presented here is not possible simply because the parents have disappeared. If they exist, it is necessary to carry out, on the one hand, a DNA study and, on the other hand, a historical study. Both should be supplemented as far as possible with studies of the morphology of each variety.

__ For DNA analysis samples (normally leaf) of the different varieties to be evaluated are taken, extracted their DNA and analyzed in specific points (markers) that allow to establish the possible existence of kinship relations between the varieties. According to the researchers, the more markers are used, the more reliable the results of kinship analysis will be.

__ The historical study, aided by the morphological one, serves to try to determine the temporary origin of the involved varieties, and their places of cultivation in remote times, that may not agree with the present ones.

__Estudios de ADN en la uva__En el trabajo se ha utilizado tanto el análisis de ADN como datos morfológicos e históricos que permitieran caracterizar las relaciones genéticas del Tempranillo, identificando a sus progenitores y también a sus descendientes.

__El equipo del ICVV-La Rioja ha realizado el análisis de determinados marcadores de ADN significativos en la colección de variedades de vid del IMIDRA (compuesta por unos 3.400 ejemplares de vid), cuyos investigadores también han realizado el estudio morfológico e histórico de la investigación.

__La investigación ha incorporado también una búsqueda de variedades derivadas del Tempranillo. Partiendo de una base de datos que contiene la mayor parte de las variedades españolas sólo se identificó una, el Coloraíllo, como un posible descendiente del Tempranillo y de la Moravia Dulce (variedad también conocida como Marufo o Brujidera). En este caso se ha identificado al Tempranillo como el progenitor masculino. Además, para cada uno de los padres del Tempranillo se han identificado otras variedades españolas relacionadas: Albillo Mayor está relacionado con Castellana Blanca y Benedicto con Benedicto Falso de Aragón.

__El estudio contribuye a ilustrar la necesidad de preservar variedades antiguas, especialmente aquellas que ya no se cultivan, como se ha hecho en El Encín, instalación dependiente del IMIDRA que gestiona la colección nacional de variedades de vid, y en otros repositorios de todo el mundo.

__Este hallazgo permitirá obtener nuevas variedades mejor adaptadas al entorno climático o geográfico; o con mejores características vitícolas

__La identificación de los padres del Tempranillo permite en primer lugar ratificar científicamente el origen autóctono de esta variedad. Además esta información puede servir para obtener nuevas variedades relacionadas que se adapten adecuadamente a nuevos entornos climáticos y geográficos, o que ofrezcan nuevas o mejores características de interés vitícola y enológico.

__DNA studies in the grape
In the work, both DNA analysis and morphological and historical data have been used to characterize the genetic relationships of Tempranillo, identifying their progenitors and also their descendants.
__The ICVV-La Rioja team has carried out the analysis of certain significant DNA markers in the IMIDRA collection of vine varieties (composed of some 3,400 grapevines), whose researchers have also carried out the morphological and historical study of the research.
__The research has also incorporated a search for varieties derived from Tempranillo. Identificados los progenitores de la uva Tempranillo /1-3/

___Investigadores de la Universidad de La Rioja ha Identificado a los progenitores de la uva Tempranillo entre las variedades de vid minoritarias en el entorno del valle del Ebro. Son Albillo y Benedicto. Esta es la primera determinación del origen genético de una de las variedades de uva más cultivadas en España.

___ Investigadores del Instituto de Ciencias de la Vid y del Vino-ICVV (Gobierno de La Rioja, CSIC, Universidad de La Rioja) y del Instituto Madrileño de Investigación y Desarrollo Rural, Agrario y Alimentario (IMIDRA) han identificado los progenitores de la variedad de uva Tempranillo, la uva tinta más extendida en España con un 20% de la superficie total de viñedo.

___ El análisis de parentesco ha permitido identificar las variedades Albillo Mayor y Benedicto como los padres del Tempranillo. El Albillo Mayor –denominado Turruntés en La Rioja– es una variedad muy conocida, que se cultiva en el centro de la Península Ibérica. Por el contrario, la variedad Benedicto casi no se cultiva ahora, solo queda de forma residual en Aragón, y carece de referencias históricas claras en la literatura vitícola española.

___ Los datos históricos y genéticos reunidos en esta investigación que publicará en julio American Journal of Enology and Viticulture permiten señalar que la variedad Tempranillo podría haber nacido en el último milenio probablemente en el entorno del valle del Ebro.

___ El Tempranillo se utiliza para la producción de vino tinto y en la actualidad está extendido en muchas regiones vinícolas de todo el mundo. Gracias a esta investigación se ha identificado por primera vez la genealogía de una de las grandes variedades de uva española en superficie y valor comercial. Previamente se había encontrado el origen genético de otras variedades como Cabernet-Sauvignon (1997) o Merlot (2009).

___ Researchers at the University of La Rioja have identified the parents of the Tempranillo grape among the minor vine varieties in the Ebro Valley. They are Albillo and Benedicto. This is the first determination of the genetic origin of one of the most cultivated grape varieties in Spain.

___ Las cosas interesantes del vino, que no solo, son beber y saber cual es el vino más novedoso, o el lugar más apabullante, o el último vino que ha aparecido, en locales (mal) decorados de este glamour "MAL COPIADO" como si se tratase de espacios en Berlín, Oslo o Roterdam, donde beber vino digamos disfrazados de una modernez artificial, poniendo a las marcas de vino nombres que solo se entiende en la generación que ahora (2016) tiene entre 40 y 50 años y visten como si tuvieran, tan solo unos interminables 15? 20? 0...?... 

___ Por eso, creo que también existen muchas "cosas", en el universo del vino y su cultura, que en verdad no hace falta para saber de vino, es beber vino permanentemente, y esas "cosas" son por ejemplo saber de la historia, la filosofía o el arte desde que nos identificamos como seres humanos con cultura; eso sí, cultura pero nada de "snobismo".

No obstante, para la mayoría de los compradores y consumidores de vino, el precio es el criterio definitivo, ya que se busca y aprecia el valor de lo que se paga, tanto o más que la mera calidad.
